In terms of product segmentation, the Ion Exchange Resins market can be divided by resin type (cation exchange vs anion exchange), by functional grade (strong acid, weak acid, strong base, weak base) and by physical form (gel‐type or macroporous beads).
For example, strong acid cation (SAC) resins are used in hardness removal and full demineralisation. Anion exchange resins (strong base or weak base) are used for silica removal, de-alkalisation and polishing stages in water systems. As industries demand higher purity, longer life, chemical stability and lower regeneration cost, the demand for speciality resin grades increases—shifting some of the market from commodity to performance-oriented supply.
